The Schrama family farm dates back to 1912 when Jacobus Van der Poel started breeding cows and making cheese directly on the farm. In 1956, his son Joap van der Poel took over the farm, and in 1964, he started producing Gouda cheese on a daily basis. In 1993, Paul Schrama married Joap’s daughter Ellen, and moved in with them to take over the farm. Today Ellen and Paul have a herd of 200 dairy cows. These cows have access to the great outdoors, and are free to come and go as they please. Paul and Ellen’s farm is located in the
"Green Heart" of Holland, a region particularly famous for its vast and lush green pastures. Every day, Paul and Ellen work side by side, producing Gouda cheese from raw farm milk matured for a very long time in their cellar. We have selected a Gouda that has been matured for at least 18 months, and has a deep yellow colour verging on orange. The cheese is hard and almost crumbly, but incomparably rich on the palate. It boasts hints of roasted dried nuts, and a touch of caramel.
